Fort Hill Performing Arts Center Showcases Fiber Art by Gallery Artist Judi Rogers Cermak

Canandaigua, NY — February 11 - Fort Hill Performing Arts Center is proud to present a new gallery exhibition featuring fiber artist Judi Rogers Cermak, whose innovative textile work challenges traditional boundaries between art and craft. Her immersive fiber installation, inspired by the beauty and fragility of coral reefs, is now on view in the Ontario County Arts Council Gallery at Fort Hill.

“We’re thrilled to feature Judi’s fiber art at Fort Hill,” says Sueann Townsend, Executive Director of Fort Hill Performing Arts Center. “Her work brings a unique voice to our gallery and aligns beautifully with our mission to present diverse and engaging visual art experiences alongside our performing arts programming.”

Cermak’s work is rooted in a lifelong passion for textiles and stitch. Using crochet hooks and needles in place of brushes or pencils, she creates intricate fiber pieces that celebrate texture, color, and form while elevating fiber art as a fine art medium. Her practice reflects a deliberate effort to blur the line between art and craft, highlighting that the tools may differ, but the creative impulse remains the same.

“I have had a lifelong love of textiles and stitch, creating unique fiber arts,” says Cermak. “Some artists hold brushes, pencils, and tools. I hold crochet hooks and needles. The media is different, but the desire to create is the same.”

Beyond her studio work, Cermak has been a dedicated advocate for the arts throughout her life. She has shared her knowledge through teaching, served as a leader with the Ontario County Arts Council, and exhibited her work throughout the region. Her coral reef installation at Fort Hill reflects both her artistic vision and her commitment to fostering appreciation for the arts within the community.

Gallery access is available during regular Fort Hill box office hours, Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as before, during, and after scheduled performances. Appointments may also be made through the Fort Hill Performing Arts Center Business Office at 585-412-6043.
